Folding seats won’t fold – How To Fix?
|Lately, It became almost impossible to fold the back seats of my Pajero (the second row of seats) after almost 20 minutes of struggling I succeeded to fold the and thought it might be a good idea to fix it.
Luckily, like many “small fixes” on Mitsubishi, the fix is easy and requires only basic tools – a Philips screw driver and 2X 10mm wrenches.
It is easier to do the job while the seats are already folded, but, if you can’t fold them, I guess it is possible to access the bolts as well.
Let’s start…
First, open the Philips bolt which is hidden in the circled hole 🙂
Then, pull the plastic cover and remove it (you may need to pull is to the left and then up, be careful, do not use too much power, it should be easy)
Now you can see the mechanism that operate the folding system.
The handle pulls the cable which allow the seats to fold, we have to stretch that cable – or, better saying adjust it.
Usually, you will have to open the nuts (circled in the picture below) and move them closer to the upper end of the cable.
Use the 10mm wrenches to do so, first, open the upper one while holding the lower in its place, then move the lower up till it hold the cable mount as it should.
Tighten the nuts one against each other.
Now, check that the seats fold as they should, like new 🙂
If everything is ok, put the plastic cover back in place, otherwise, try to adjust them again.
How do I remove the 3rd row of seats so I can have extra space for camping?
Hi,
Sure you can.
In the NM and later models, it is very simple. All you have to do is lift the seats to a vertical position (while they are still folded) and then pull them up.
In the earlier models, I’m not familiar with the exact process, but I’m pretty sure it is possible (worst case, remove them completely by removing their bolts)
Well this was a good find. I was looking for other information about my Pajero, but my left hand rear seat has been a bugger to fold for the ten years I’ve owned it. I have to get the seat back in exactly the right position, before the base will release, so I’ll be trying this fix tomorrow. 🙂
I want to remove the 3 row seats and make it folding like land cruiser type .It is possible?
probably yes. never tried it.
Hi, I have a 2007 NS pajero LWB and the 2nd row seats have the same problem but they don’t look anything like the pictures here. My second row right side double seat is jammed and wont fold. I removed the plastic covers off the left side of that seat but can’t figure out what to do. Any help appreciated.
Hi,
If you can attach a picture that would help…
I had the same problem but found a ‘trick’ that works 100%
I found that if I fold the seat in two actions it doesn’t work, but if I fold the back and immediately fold it forward it works fine.
Hi
I have a problem with Pajero 2005. It just starts & immediately comes back to OFF. Some technicians said it has a faulty fuel pump then tried to to remove the second seat to reach the fuel pump. He used too much power & failed to remove the seat & almost destroy it. could you guide me to diagnose the problem & repair the seat. Thanks.
I managed to fold a little the double back seat but when I pull the handle, the cable pumps out in another from a plastic retention. But it was very usefull. I managed to fold a little manually. Thanks!
Hi

Hi, it is hard for me to say something without seeing the actual situation.
I guess that if it got in, it will get out…
