Moab – Heaven on Earth for Off-Road lovers
|It was always a dream for me, go to Moab (Utah, USA), get a Jeep and travel around in the capital city of 4×4 trails and vehicles.
Somehow, we got a chance to make that dream comes true. We flew to Las Vegas, rented a Ford Edge and drove away…
The plan was to stay 8 nights in the US, first night, Vegas!
We went downtown, in the city of sins and lights, it is not my first time there, but it is always fun to watch and be a part of the very special atmosphere of Las Vegas. I will try to share with you some of the experience in the following video (which is the only one from that trip that I didn’t have to add music 🙂 ):
We woke up early the next day and drove to Page, then, to the Monument Valley, if you plan to get inside and drive on the trail there, an all wheel drive car is highly recommended and be ready to pay 8$ / person – card only, no cash.
Next stop… Durango, a nice small town, worth a visit. We spent the night there just before driving on the Million Dollars Highway. It was snowing till a day or two before we arrived so we drove through incredible view of the Rockies mountains in white.
Next…. MOAB!!!
(well, 3 hours of driving, next 🙂 )
Moab is defiantly the capital of the 4×4 scene in the USA, you can walk in the street and hear the V8 growling all around. Different 4×4, mostly Jeeps are everywhere.
We got our Jeep Rubicon with 37″ wheels from “Twisted Jeeps” , it costed ~$500/day includes the insurance for 3 drivers. We got one with new tires, 40K km on the odometer. I must admit that as a 98 Land Rover Discovery owner (and previous owner of a 2002 Pajero) I was impressed by the quality and quite of the plastic parts and the interior in general.
One of the nice things in Moab Utah is that many trails are just “around the corner”. you drive 10 to 20 minutes from town’s center and you’ll arrive to some of the most amazing trails that you’ll see.
Each trails takes few hours and they are all ranked from 1 to 10 while 1 is the easiest and 8 and above will require a “special 4×4”, usually, not allowed to drive on a public road.
We started with a rank 4 trail (7 miles rim), and then to 6-7 ones – Poison Spider, Flat Iron Mesa and Metal Masher.
The last trail we did was the “Hell’s Revenge”. You can find many videos of it on Youtube. None of them will give you the actual feeling of driving up hill not seeing anything and downhill while your nose almost hits the front windshield 🙂
I think that is the first time I actually shout while driving 🙂
