Pajero 3 R/D Lock test
|The rear diff lock is one of the most important components of the Pajero while off roading. The extra short wheel travel that we have with the IFS and rear “axle” can cause a lot of unpleasant situations while traveling off road.
Luckily, we have a RD lock that changes that.
The idea is simple, the lock actually discards the rear differential action and enforce both wheels to turn at the same speed.
That way, even if one of the rear wheels doesn’t have any grip on the ground, the other one will still push the Pajero.
That is the “magic” button:
You can see a nice demo in that video:

nm 3.5lt engine.
have to replace timing belt kit about every 2000 km
have you any ideas why or can you give any info??
That sounds weird. What exactly do you replace and how do you know it is needed every 2K? Which parts do you use? Do they meet Mitsubishi specifications?
Check the pulleys, is it possible that they are worn/curved?
I have the 2003 3.2 DiD LWB Auto. It doesn’t have a rear diff lock as with the post you mentioned, but I believe it has a limited slip diff instead. Do you know of these and what are your thoughts?
Limited slip is better than nothing, but it is not a real lock.
It will help you if you are already moving, if you stopped in a place that one of the wheels doesn’t have any grip on the ground, the limited slip won’t help you unless you’ll gain some speed/movement.
